Amazonite, Kashale, Ethiopia
Amazonite
Kashale, Konso, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples’ Region, Ethiopia
Ethiopian amazonite is one of the hidden gems of the past that many modern collectors are unaware of. Literal tons of this material came out of the region in the 70s and 80s, but virtually none is still on the market today unless it’s come out of old collections or dealer stock that hasn’t been touched in a decade or two. This piece has a very nice form and luster to it, with many crystal faces on the front of the piece and a graphic granite matrix. The color is a pale blue-greeen, very typical of that region, although some deeper colors have been found. A few small internal fractures are visible, but this specimen is unrepaired, and none of the fractures travel the full width of the specimen.
Dimensions:
Height: 6.56 cm
Width: 3.96 cm
Depth: 2.40 cm
